What is a personal loan?
A personal loan is an unsecured instalment loan — you receive a lump sum and repay it plus interest in fixed monthly payments over a set term (usually 1–7 years). Unlike a mortgage or auto loan, it is not secured against an asset, which is why personal loans usually carry higher interest rates.
Typical uses include consolidating credit card debt, home improvements, weddings, medical bills or a large purchase.

No. The interest rate applies to the principal only. APR includes mandatory fees and reflects the true annual cost. When comparing loan offers, always compare APR — two loans with the same rate can have very different true costs if one has large fees.
Usually yes, though some lenders charge an early-repayment penalty. Even without a penalty, a loan can have a "rule of 78" interest schedule that front-loads interest — meaning early payoff doesn't save as much as you would expect. Check your loan terms or ask the lender.
