Frequently asked questions
A gradian (also called a gon) divides a full circle into 400 equal parts. It is used in surveying and some branches of engineering because a right angle equals exactly 100 gradians — a convenient round number.
One degree is subdivided into 60 arcminutes (written 1'), and each arcminute into 60 arcseconds (1"). An angle is often written as 12° 34' 56", meaning 12 degrees, 34 minutes, 56 seconds. This format is common in astronomy and navigation.
