Tile quantity formulas

Tile area = tile length × tile width

Tiles needed = (Area to tile × (1 + waste/100)) ÷ Tile area

Boxes needed = ⌈Tiles needed ÷ tiles per box⌉

Typical waste allowances: 5% for a simple rectangular room laid straight; 10% for most rooms; 15% or more for diagonal patterns, herringbone or complex shapes with many cuts.

Frequently asked questions

Waste covers cut tiles at edges, tiles that break during installation, minor measuring errors and future repairs. A spare box or two ensures you can match the exact dye lot if any tile is damaged later.

Add the total areas together before entering. For example, two 10 m² rooms → enter 20 m². The waste allowance applies to the total, which is fine because cuts in each room average out.
