Units
In cm (or inches). Typical: 5 cm for decorative paths, 10–15 cm for driveways.

Enter project details, then press Calculate gravel.

Gravel formulas

Volume = length × width × depth

Weight = volume × density

Common depths

  • Decorative paths: 5 cm (2 in)
  • Garden borders: 5–8 cm (2–3 in)
  • Light-use driveways: 10 cm (4 in)
  • Heavy-use driveways: 15 cm (6 in) over a base layer

Frequently asked questions

Depends on the type. Standard gravel: ~1,500 kg (1.5 tonnes). Pea gravel: ~1,350 kg. Crushed stone and road base can be 1,600–1,700 kg. The calculator uses the density you select from the dropdown.

Yes, for most garden and driveway applications. A woven geotextile membrane stops weeds and stops the gravel sinking into the soil. It does not affect the gravel volume calculation — just measure the area and add the membrane to your shopping list.
